Default Best web programming language

There is quite a lots of different programming languages for the web, lately PHP seem to be the leading language, any non PHP coder out there who thinks his programming language of choice is better than PHP ?

doubt youll see many, but a lot seem to be moving to ruby and perl for cgi's and ruby on rails for a web script.

You are righ about ruby but I am not sure about Perl, Perl has been around for quite some time, I don't think its popularity is increasing

don't under estimate java, it can still do some pretty cool things. I've also noticed that since the introduction of java enabled cell phones and other handheld devices, demand for these small versatile programs has gone back up. The language isn't all that difficult either.

The development for PHP had gone so far that it can support for object oriented (PHP 5). But it's sad that most of the webhosting company are still using PHP 4. :?

I'm a java programmer myself building web application and the employment and demand for such skill are more prosper. Yet, i can't denied the website growth and popularity had switch to PHP. It's easy to learn and deployed. Help and support can be found easily on the web nowdays. 8)

all scripting languages are good and have its own importance as u go for more security than JAVA will be nest but as SEO is concern i go for PHP.
