The computer are changing fast as the technology keeps running. New computer can run faster or even store even more memories at the lower price. However, sometime the change comes so fast that we are unable to run after every now and then. So, my rate of changing my computer is approximately 5 years. :?

That totally depends on the user's requirements and buying capabilities. As for me, I cannot afford to buy a new computer so I just upgrade whatever needs upgrading and add/change hardwares as necessary.

For me i am upgrading around every 3 months in order to stay on top. New technologies such as quad sli just shot in only a short time after regular sli. This shows that technology grows more and more every day. There are so many companies trying to stay on top and will do anything they can in order to beat the competition. Computers is a very expensive hobby, but is always fun to look at technology advance through the years. We go from 200 mhz cpus to powerfull 4.2ghz cpus and dual cpu systems in under 10 years.

I've never actually 'changed computer'. I upgrade bit by bit to a spec that just gets me by with the current games and software. Over the past 10 years I've built around 5 PCs out of old parts that have been replaced with upgrades so I could say I have a new PC every 2 years.

I usually buy a new computer every 3 years. Even though I am a network engineer and my job has to do with them, I don't enter this daily race of upgrading all the time. Mostly it is games that make you upgrade quickly and I don't have the time anymore to play anyway

I change PC if my existing unit can no longer respond to my needs. Another valid reason is if my current PC is irrepairable. In extreme cases, I bite good offers from suppliers.

A couple of years back I bought a Dell laptop. It was a huge mistake as I'm a pretty hardcore gamer, so the hardware (was great at the time of purchase) quickly became outdated.
So, just over 2 years and $3200 later, I'm here typing on my dream gaming machine (desktop ofcourse) - there'll probably be a need to upgrade my RAM in a couple of years time (currently have 2GB), but at least I'll be able to do it without sending it back to Dell and getting charged $600. |

If I find a buyer for my old PC that's the time I make an upgrade. In most cases I upgrade the entire unit. For a brand new one, it is less hassle if it bogs down because of the warranty that comes with it.
